I met Lovey at Bazley Beach, South Coast of KZN, on 16 July 2017. She was sitting on the beach watching her husband,Krish, and sons angling.This is how she makes chicken curry:

 

Ingredients :

 

  • 1 to 1.5 kg chicken
  • 45 ml oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 curry leaf
  • 2.5 ml dried time
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 potatoes
  • 37 ml mixed powder :: Osmans Extra Special Chilly Powder(1kg),Bombay Delight(1 kg) and Garama Masalla (500gm) mixed through. ( VIR ʼn SAGTE KERRIE GOOI NET EEN EETLEPEL !! )
  • 7.5 ml Cinnimon powder
  • 15 ml Elatchi powder ( cardomon )
  • 7.5 ml Aniseed (Star)
  • 15 ml ginger & garlic mix ( or use fresh ginger or garlic )
  • 5 ml salt

 

Method :

 

Heat oil and add onion and curry leaf. Simmer for two minutes. Add tomatoes,ginger and garlic mix and simmer for three minutes. Add all your spices and stir well. Now, add the chicken as well as the potatoes and let cook untill the potatoes are ready. The meat will be coked too.

 

I usually stir three tablespoon plain yogurt into the pot right at the end.
